Another theatre where I watched several Saturday movies, the Needham Theatre at the Navy Base in Port Hueneme, California. Movies were 35 cents, popcorn 15 cents and a coke a dime. I watched a movie there one day called Soylent Green. Scared me so much I couldn't sleep for a week!

I love to eat at special places when we are traveling. I use the Travel Channel, Man vs Food and Yelp as search engines on many occasions. Sometimes I like to hear what the locals think. Many times the best food is found off the beaten path. Yesterday, I ate the best tacos ever at a little place close to old Las Vegas called Taco El Gordo. What a place. Authentic Mexican. The pork tacos were unreal. Look on Yelp for more reviews. It's a must if your heading this way.

The Birth of Jesus

We had a good flight to Las Vegas last night. Craig met us at the airport and away we went to Planet Hollywood to our favorite sandwich shop, Earl of Sandwich for a turkey and dressing sandwich. He then took us to the Eiffel Tower at the Paris resort for a view of the city. It was a beautiful sight 46 floors up.

We spent all day Thursday moving Craig in to his new apartment in Vegas. We bought a bed, sofa and love seat as well. We made the big Walmart and Sams run and started unpacking. Today, we are looking for a dining room set and locating a couple of churches so Craig can check out on Sunday. Craig lives on the NW side of the city close to Summerlin. A real nice area of town. He will be about 15 minutes to work. The good news, they have a great highway system. So far great weather. Big plus according to Craig they have Sonic and Long John Silvers.

Craig and Dad leaves after school today to move him to Las Vegas, Nevada. It will be a fast trip. After 4 1/2 years, Craig leaves New York City this morning and begins a new phase of his life. I remember when we left our little boy in the Big Apple at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). Debbie and I cried all the way home as we left our 18 year old all alone. We made 4 trips to NYC during his college career. Trips will never forget. Great memories. Evelyn E. Higgs, 94, of Topeka, passed away Monday, October 17, 2011. Evelyn was born November 4, 1916, in Rives, TN, daughter of Sydney and Viola (Tanner) Lytton. On March 7, 1942, Evelyn married William “Bill” Higgs, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She worked for the State of Kansas, Dept. of Revenue, as a tax examiner for many years, retiring in 1982. Evelyn was a long time member of the Central Church of Christ, Topeka, where she taught first grade Sunday school for over 30 years.

Evelyn is survived by her sons, William (Siri) Higgs and Michael Higgs; grandchildren, Brian (Stephanie) and Mark (Stephenie) Higgs; and great grandchildren, Blake and Rylee Higgs.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Higgs.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 21, 2011, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, Topeka. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka. Mrs. Higgs will lie in state after 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2011, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Church of Christ, 1250 SW College Ave., Topeka, KS 66604.

The stores reopened on Wednesday. “I thought it would be a great experience to bring all the family members together,” said Robert Chavez, president and chief executive officer of Hermès USA. “It’s about creating special bonds.” Not to mention the high motivational factor: a game of Hermès-style “Family Feud,” while Kermit Oliver, a postman and artist in Waco, Tex., who paints scarves for Hermès, spoke about his work and where he gets his inspiration. There was a DIY assignment: Every employee was asked to decorate a white 90-inch-by-90-inch silk Hermès scarf. When all 515 scarves were displayed, Chavez said, “I wouldn’t be surprised if some went into production.” Bertrand Puech, who chairs the main Hermès family holding company, and his wife, Martine, attended a gala dinner and recognition ceremony for top salespeople.
